New study challenges effectiveness of midyear tests in schools amidst national shift away from standardized assessments

The study highlights significant limitations, particularly in low-performing schools, and suggests that these tests may inadvertently hinder efforts to improve student outcomes.

Engineers discover key barrier to longer-lasting batteries

University of Texas at Dallas researchers have discovered why LiNiO2 batteries break down, and they are testing a solution that could remove a key barrier to widespread use of the material. They published their findings online Dec. 10 in the journal Advanced Energy Materials.
The team plans first to manufacture LiNiO2 batteries in the lab and ultimately to work with an industry partner to commercialize the technology.

A new study by the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz examines the impact of right-wing populist election results on the well-being and integration of trainees with an immigrant background. The results show that regional support for the German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) plays a decisive role in experiences of discrimination and related health consequences for migrant workers.

This classic neuropsychological test evaluates various aspects of auditory verbal memory in adults and is widely used in both clinical diagnostics and research. The study findings have been published in The Clinical Neuropsychologist.
