Identifying and interpreting vacancies in patent maps is a promising approach to discover technological opportunities. However, it remains a challenging task. Recently, scientists from Seoul National University of Science and Technology have developed an innovative machine learning approach based on text-embedding inversion, which translates patent vacancies into human-readable formats, helping to uncover technological opportunities for corporate growth.

The Bank of Japan’s Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) purchases have had a substantial impact on stock prices. Researchers from Waseda University and the Bank of Japan reveal that the large-scale purchases of ETFs by the Bank of Japan have not only directly pushed up stock prices in the equity market but have also had a significant impact on the securities lending market, offering practical implications that can support decision-making in policy implementation and market activities.

ESMT Berlin, Mannheim Business School, and WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management have joined forces to bring greater international attention to Germany as a destination for science and education. Germany stands for stability, democracy, and intellectual openness, especially in contrast to the changing political and social conditions in other parts of the world. Against this backdrop, the three institutions aim to speak with a unified voice and purposefully strengthen international interest in studying, researching, and exchanging ideas in Germany.

In September, 2019, Department of Health and Social Care of UK released UK Physical Activity Guidelines nationwide, which is broken down by age group: under 1, 1-4, 5-18, 19-64  and older adults aged >65 years, respectively. To date, the impact of adherence to physical activity guidelines by older adults on cardiorespiratory fitness and skeletal muscle mass, which are both key parameters of intrinsic capacity, is poorly understood. Therefore, the team from Centre of Metabolism, Ageing & Physiology (COMAP) from University of Nottingham recruited 14 older adults (age: 66-80 years) completed a 4-week intervention in which they adhered to UK Physical Activity Guidelines via a combination of supervised and home-based exercise, aiming to assess the impact upon parameters related to intrinsic capacity in older adults.
