The study introduces the concept of en-communiting, a dynamic process where communities unite around renewable energy initiatives, turning energy infrastructures into platforms for social equity and ecological resilience. Published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy, the research explores four international case studies through a 7-point framework, revealing how Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) reduce inequality, foster trust, and empower citizens. While RECs show immense potential, the study calls for targeted policies to bridge gaps between vision and reality in the fight for a just energy transition.

Hidden potential in multiple disabilities

Using eye-tracking — a technique for recording and analysing eye movements — a team from the University of Geneva (UNIGE) has shown that individuals with multiple disabilities can improve their social and emotional skills. Although these patients are often considered ‘‘untestable’’, nine young people have undergone personalised training over a period of one year, with promising results in terms of their ability to socialise. This work opens the way to new methods of assessment and support. It is published in Acta Psychologica.

How to protect bumblebee colonies safe from killer moths? Keep honeybee hives away from them

Researchers have shown for the first time that bumblebee colonies are more likely to become infested with bumblebee wax moths as they are closer to nearby honeybee hives, which can likewise host these potentially devastating parasites. As the distance to the apiaries decreased, bumblebee colonies were less productive, while their workers showed a weaker general immune response to pathogens and parasites. The authors advise honeybee keepers to keep apiaries away from habitats rich in bumblebees, which are important pollinators but declining worldwide.
