Following the outstanding success of last year’s inaugural conference, New York Valves 2025 is the world’s premier structural heart meeting and continues its mission to shape the future of structural heart care through collaboration, education, and innovation. The summit will take place June 25-27, 2025, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, North in New York City.

A groundbreaking approach: Researchers at The University of Texas at San Antonio chart the future of neuromorphic computing

As the electricity consumption of AI is projected to double by 2026, neuromorphic computing emerges as a promising solution. Researchers at The University of Texas at San Antonio are advancing neuromorphic computing, a field that applies principles of neuroscience to computing systems to mimic the brain’s function and structure. Neuromorphic chips have the potential to outpace traditional computers in energy and space efficiency as well as performance, presenting substantial advantages across various domains, including artificial intelligence, health care and robotics. To achieve scale in neuromorphic computing, the team proposes several key features that must be optimized, including sparsity, a feature observed in the biological brains.

World’s first commercial farming of sockeye salmon takes a giant step forward

Sockeye salmon raised through land-based aquaculture using the groundbreaking Third Water™ technology have reached the shipping stage, marking a world-first in business-based commercial farming of this species. A press conference held on July 20, 2024, in Fukushima City by Ichii, Okayama University of Science (OUS), and NTT East Japan announced this achievement and introduced trial sales starting the next day at Ichii supermarkets. The salmon, cultivated in a 22-ton advanced land-based facility, grew remarkably from 70g to over 1,200g in just 18 months. This project showcases revolutionary technology addressing global challenges like climate change and extreme weather, offering stable and sustainable fish farming solutions aligned with SDGs. It also leverages ICT solutions to modernize primary industries and holds potential for global expansion. The tasting event highlighted the high quality of the salmon, drawing significant media and consumer interest.

A research led by PhD candidate Mital Chakma and associate professor Kojiro Matsuo from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Toyohashi University of Technology has highlighted the contribution of “Traffic park (TP)” to children traffic safety education. Using Toyohashi TP as a case study, the research evaluates how frequent TP usage improves children's traffic rule awareness and behavioral intentions, ultimately fostering safer mobility habits.
