Banks of computer screens stacked two and three high line the walls. The screens are covered with numbers and graphs that are unintelligible to an untrained eye. But they tell a story to the operators staffing the particle accelerator control room. The numbers describe how the accelerator is speeding up tiny particles to smash into targets or other particles. 

A three-year NSF grant of $230,732 will enable researchers, led by Assistant Professor Karen King from the University of Tennessee's Department of Geography and Sustainability, to create a North American Temperature Atlas (NATA) with over five centuries of data. Collaborating with multiple universities, the project aims to inform climate studies and resource management through tree-ring analysis and educational outreach.

Malcolm Skingle has seen huge changes in his 20 years as chair of Diamond's Industrial Science Committee (DISCo).
