The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN)—an alliance of leading cancer centers devoted to patient care, research, and education—hosts a Policy Summit exploring where artificial intelligence (AI) currently stands as a tool for improving cancer care, and where it may be going in the future. 

To address burnout amongst healthcare providers, faculty members from UCF’s Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) recently created the RenewU program, a free virtual toolkit designed to increase resiliency and support well-being for healthcare providers, students, clinics and hospitals.

The University of Illinois Chicago’s Center for Alcohol Research in Epigenetics has been awarded an $8.3 million five-year grant renewal to continue its research on alcohol use disorder. The grant renewal from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, under the National Institutes of Health, will fuel cutting-edge research into cellular interaction in areas of the brain that are key to alcohol addiction.

Researchers led by Noah Cowan at Johns Hopkins University have secured NIH funding to probe how animals alternate between "explore" (sensing) and "exploit" (task-oriented) behaviors in uncertain environments, using the weakly electric glass knifefish as  a model. The team includes researchers from four universities who will integrate their expertise in neuroscience, math, engineering, and machine learning to build on 2023 findings in  Nature Machine Intelligence that revealed the explore/exploit pattern across species from amoebas to humans. The project aims to decode decision triggers, with implications for robotics and medicine.

Climate change has already contributed substantially to the global burden of dengue fever, a new study finds. Over 260 million people live in places where dengue incidence is expected to more than double due to climate change by mid-century. The findings could help with public health planning and developing ways to mitigate such risks.
