A new tool developed at the University of Arizona offers a way to measure which era of the past evokes the most nostalgia.

New research from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin offers a more broad-based approach to assessing how large financial institutions would weather crises. The new models, devised by Rui Gao, associate professor, and Stathis Tompaidis, professor — both in the Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management — rely less on big events and more on multifaceted data. In experimental runs, their test scenarios outperformed a regulator’s existing ones at identifying worst-case losses. “It’s not necessarily the large market moves, the headline days, that are the best days to use,” Tompaidis says. “It’s days where the stresses are complemented with each other.”

The income gap between the global North (the advanced economies of the core) and the global South (the developing economies of the periphery) has increased by between 170% and 270% since 1960, according to a study by the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB), Spain, recently published in the journal New Political Economy. The research, conducted by ICTA-UAB economists Jason Hickel and Dylan Sullivan, delivers a blow to the popular narrative that poorer countries are "catching up" to richer nations through capitalist growth.

A new pan-European study has identified the key behavioural factors that influence whether healthcare professionals prescribe new, novel or non-routine treatments for patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
