KTU, Lithuania, scientists have developed a method to convert textile waste into both alternative fuel and high-value cement additives. Their findings show that textile ash can replace up to 7.5% of conventional cement and increase material strength by up to 16%, while recycled polyester fibres improve concrete performance by 15–20%. The research offers a sustainable pathway for managing textile waste and reducing CO₂ emissions in cement production.

The method uses common household items and reduces toxic substances to identify both the type and quantity of illicit drugs.

The presence of dark matter has only been inferred through observations of galaxies and galaxy clusters moving at higher rates of speed than should be possible based on their mass. A researcher has detected gamma rays from the central region of the Milky Way galaxy that are consistent with the energy and intensity that would be emitted by the annihilation of two weakly interacting massive particles, or WIMPs, that are proposed to make up dark matter. If the anaylsis is correct, this could signify the first time that dark matter has been directly observed since it was first proposed in 1933.
