Nursing education plays a crucial role in shaping compassionate healthcare professionals, yet many universities in Japan rely heavily on standardized curricula, leaving little room for distinctive approaches. In a recent study, scientists examined Catholic universities’ nursing faculties to identify their unique characteristics. They found four core values—love for all people, wholeness in relation to God, resilience through suffering, and professional responsibility—demonstrating how Catholic social doctrine enriches nursing education.
Following a competitive review process, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for Pennington Biomedical’s Metabolic Basis of Disease Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) was renewed for an additional five years. This Phase II renewal builds on the momentum achieved since the center’s establishment in 2020, enabling continued support for young scientists who are focused on the mechanisms through which nutrition and metabolism contribute to health.

The 2025 Cmolik–SFU Grant Program supports classroom, school, and district-based science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) projects. Administered by Simon Fraser University’s Faculty of Education through the Cmolik Endowment Fund, the program empowers educators to design initiatives that build critical thinking skills, foster curiosity, and create equitable opportunities for students from kindergarten to Grade 12.
