The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology has launched a new clinical trial for adults who need first-line therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). The study (Alliance A042302) will explore whether combining two targeted medicines, zanubrutinib and sonrotoclax, can effectively send cancer into remission, allowing patients to discontinue treatment until there is evidence the cancer has recurred.

Researchers at the University of Kansas' Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory have published a study that used markerless motion capture technology to analyze the shooting form of basketball players attempting three point shots. Results showed the most proficient shooters had significant flexibility in their hips, knees and ankles in the prep phase of shooting and that release point was not as important to accuracy as often thought. Those findings will help fuel a future attempt at the world record for most consecutive made three-pointers.

Eating more ultra-processed foods linked to poorer bone health, study finds

The study found that every 3.7 extra servings of ultra-processed foods eaten per day increased the risk of hip fracture increased by 10.5%. While servings differ among food types, an example of this would be a frozen dinner entree, a cookie and a soda.

People with HIV did not show more severe clinical symptoms during the 2022 mpox outbreak in Spain

People affected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, did not develop more severe forms of mpox — compared to HIV-negative people — during the multiregional outbreak of this disease that occurred in Spain in 2022. This is one of the main conclusions of an article published in the journal Scientific Reports, which analysed 1,158 confirmed cases of mpox in adult men. The cases were reported between June 2022 and January 2023 in seven autonomous communities. The population sample analysed in the study represents more than half of the cases recorded in Spain during this period.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 11, 2026)—The relationship between social connections and cognitive abilities is a complex one, particularly during the perimenopausal period when women transition from the reproductive period to menopause. A new study suggests that loneliness and social isolation are not only independently associated with subjective cognitive decline during perimenopause but also exhibit a joint relationship. Results of the study are published online today in Menopause, the journal of The Menopause Society.
