University of Calgary researchers invented a new way to analyze cells inside our body. The methodology coined Cellular Behavioromics has enhanced understanding of deadly sepsis infections. During sepsis immune cells cluster together, clogging up the circulatory system, which can cause organs to fail. Researchers discovered the cell clusters are the result of complex swarming behaviors like bird murmuration. This heightened understanding could lead to targeted therapeutics to prevent cell clusters and improve survival during sepsis.
Antimicrobial resistance in children is rising globally and will worsen over the next decade, threatening the effectiveness of life‑saving antibiotics, according to a world-first monitoring platform.
