Biomedical engineers at Duke University have used induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to grow specialized blood vessel cells critical to retinal health for the first time.
Researchers developed a simple and cost-effective way to protect environmental monitoring equipment from wildfire damage. The redesigned data cabinets will keep electronics below their failure temperature during wildfires, helping maintain critical environmental data collection.
POSTECH and Incheon National University develop mussel adhesive protein to achieve “sustained immunity,” offering a technology that could ease the burden of repeat vaccination.
Creatine is best known as a supplement for athletes, but a new systematic review asks whether the molecule that fuels muscle might also lift mood. Researchers at the University of Ottawa and the University of Toronto examined five randomized controlled trials of creatine monohydrate in people with mood disorders. Two of the five suggested that creatine, added to standard treatment, reduced depressive symptoms. The other three found no clear benefit. The compound was well tolerated, with only mild digestive system side effects reported. The authors conclude that larger and more balanced trials are needed before creatine earns a place in psychiatric care.
This study revealed the complete molecular mechanism by which P.g induced microglial ferroptosis through the NOX4/PPAR-α/PGC-1α pathway, thereby driving neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment, providing a molecular target and theoretical basis for drug repurposing targeting NOX4 to intervene in periodontitis-associated Alzheimer's disease.
