Zishen Huoxue Decoction shields the heart from reperfusion injury via ER-mitochondria crosstalk
Chinese Journal of Natural MedicinesA study in the Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines reports that Zishen Huoxue Decoction (ZSHX) mitigates myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury by reprogramming endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondria homeostasis through a DUSP1-NDUFS4 signaling axis. Building on the group’s 2025 work on ZSHX and mitochondrial quality control, this study uses conditional-knockout models, single-cell sequencing, metabolomics, and network pharmacology to identify kaempferol as a core bioactive component that stabilizes mitochondrial proteostasis, restores calcium balance, and reprograms cardiomyocyte metabolism under reperfusion stress.
