Duraplasty is a surgical procedure that is used to repair or reconstruct the dura mater using a patch graft. Several graft materials are used for the surgery, but their comparative safety remains uncertain. Now, researchers conducted a prospective randomized study in Central India to compare the outcomes of autologous pericranium (natural graft) with those of synthetic high-density polypropylene (G-Patch) in patients undergoing cranial duraplasty. Findings confirmed that both materials demonstrated acceptable short-term safety profiles.
A new systematic review published in Frontiers in Psychiatry brings together 68 studies from the first two years after the October 7 attacks, offering insights that extend far beyond Israel into how prolonged conflict, cumulative exposure and continuing threat can shape post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and addiction-related outcomes.
Although there are many cancer treatments available today that effectively eliminate abnormal cells, these therapies may also damage healthy cells, leading to unwanted side effects. Now, researchers publishing in ACS’ Journal of Medicinal Chemistry have developed a new therapeutic that is kept “locked” unless it finds itself within a tumor cell. In mice, the treatment significantly reduced tumor size without accumulating in the liver, which suggests adverse exposures could be reduced and treatment safety improved.
