People with self-reported poorer mental health also report worse quality of care and lower confidence in healthcare systems, according to a study published May 5th in the open-access journal PLOS Medicine by Margaret E. Kruk from Washington University in St. Louis, U.S., and colleagues.
The H5N1 strain of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 has been detected in over 700 herds of dairy cows in California, the largest dairy-producing state in the U.S. A study published May 5th in the open-access journal PLOS Biology led by Seema S. Lakdawala at Emory University School of Medicine, U.S. and Jason Lombard at Colorado State University, U.S. suggests that avian influenza (H5N1) is transmitted through multiple, previously unknown sources and that some H5N1 positive cows do not show clinical signs of infection.
Only 43% of menu items at the UK’s highest-grossing restaurant chains met all their voluntary targets for sugar, salt, and calorie reduction, as set by the UK Government. A new study led by researchers from Penn Nursing’s Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research (CHOPR) finds that safer nurse staffing levels in Pennsylvania hospitals could prevent thousands of deaths each year while improving care and providing savings that could finance better staffing.
Concordia researchers developed a high-fidelity CPR simulator that replicates blood flow in reduced gravity, using a mannequin with a 3D-printed cardiovascular system. Tests in parabolic flights showed it reproduces realistic pressure patterns while revealing key differences in blood flow under hypogravity, helping improve CPR techniques for future space missions.
