This NIH-funded research builds directly on the discovery of Bachmann-Bupp syndrome (BABS), an ultra-rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the ODC1 gene that disrupt the body’s polyamine pathway. The funding will advance research into polyaminopathies, a group of rare genetic disorders that can cause neurodevelopmental challenges, and support clinical studies, molecular diagnosis and treatment development.
Surgery to remove lymph nodes in the neck may interfere with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage from the brain, contributing to cognitive impairment, according to new multicenter research led by Weill Cornell Medicine scientists.
A Baylor College of Medicine-led team has developed a strategy that combines the analysis of thousands of proteins with artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate the discovery of small molecules called ‘molecular glues’ to treat disease. Their novel approach has uncovered a new class of molecular glues that can potentially neutralize harmful proteins that have been linked to blood cancers and autoimmune diseases. The work also shows how AI-based structural modeling can guide chemists early for compound optimization, well before experiments reveal how a compound works.
More than half of New York City’s app-based food delivery workers have been injured on the job and 40% meet the criteria for severe psychological distress according to a new study from the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH), in partnership with the Worker’s Justice Project (WJP).
